The dirty little secret about shopping malls is that they are declining. Tulsa has several shopping malls that are in severe decline. Maybe Simon could rebuild an out mall in such a location and leave a wilderness alone.

Once retailers are in place and designs are nearly completed, Bird said, the city would require several months to approach all the entities that would be affected by a TIF district to then campaign for the project.
“Right now, it’s getting down to what that need is, what the gap is and what the costs are going to be,” Bird said. “You won’t see either of these (malls) in the next year.”

City Councilor Jeannie Cue likes the look of the place and the idea of a new source of sales tax.
“In my area, we have a lot of people from McAlester, Okmulgee, Bartlesville that come in to shop and we need those tax dollars for the growth and development of our city,” she said.

Anyway Turkey Mountain is unique. A wilderness within sight of downtown. It is important to keep it that way. An outlet mall can go anywhere. If you think we need one of course. We’ve been doing fine without is my opinion.
